About Me

My apologies for the absence of a photo of me. I prefer to stay behind the camera. If you need to identify me in a crowd, get someplace high up, because I’m 5′2 on my best day. Look for a camera flash going off and listen for voice yelling instructions at absolutely everyone. That’s me.
I was born and raised atop beautiful Lookout Mountain in southeastern Tennessee. At the age of 18, I was accepted to a number of universities, but none were as prestigious (or as far away) as Boston University. So I moved to Boston for four years, where I spent a great deal of time walking, being cold, and drinking in an attempt to forget that I was so cold. Somehow I got the idea in my head that I wanted to write for a magazine, but when the entry level class I needed for that major was full, I took the next best thing- Introduction to Photojournalism with Joe Lippincott. I’m not being too hard on myself (nor am I fishing for compliments) when I say that I was truly horrible at photography and that I am still in complete and utter shock that I passed the class . But, with the help and encouragement of Joe, I did pass and was so thrilled about it that I declared Photojournalism as my major.
And thank goodness I did. I honestly can’t imagine what I’d do with myself if I hadn’t. How awkward it would be to go new places, to take walks, to live and breath without a camera in my hands. How terrible it would be to watch time ooze by, slowly and steadily, without being able to reach out and steal pieces of it for myself.
I now live in Nashville, Tennesse with my ever-loving dog, Pixel. In my free time, I work on multimedia documentaries, I try to learn French and I dress Pixel up in seasonal costumes.
